Film Fondue: Here’s why Marvel Studios hasn’t shown off Spider-Man

Remember that famous hallway scene from the first season of Daredevil? Well, Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock/Daredevil says there’s a fight in the second season that rivals it. Can’t wait!

This week was mostly full of housekeeping; a few movie dates got shuffled, interviews were conducted, sketchy rumors hit. The dominating news this week was Disney’s announcement that Star Wars: Episode VIII has been delayed by a few months. Not the worst news in the world, but it’ll give the filmmakers more time to make a worthy follow-up.

Daredevil in Avengers

Daredevil could be in Avengers: Infinity War—but it probably won’t be Charlie Cox who plays him. While discussing the upcoming season of Daredevil, Cox spoke about the possibility.

Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are two very different things. So even if the character were to appear in that film, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I would appear in that film. I will pick a fight with the guy that they choose!

Daredevil season 2 fight scene

Think of your favorite moment in season 1 of Daredevil, and the hallway fight scene probably ranks near the top. Not only was it beautifully choreographed, but it appeared as one seamless take, giving it an amazing realness and brutality. Naturally the showrunners of season 2 want to top that. Here’s what Charlie Cox had to say.

In terms of this season, there are a number of really good fights. There is one in particular that I’m really excited about because it’s kind of like homage to that scene, but it’s almost like these scene on crack. [IGN]

The Mummy reboot gets new release date

Originally scheduled to come out on March 24, 2017, Universal Pictures this week said The Mummy is now coming out on June 9 of that year. The film will star Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella, the latter of whom rose to fame with her villain role in Kingsman: The Secret Service. [HR]

Mark Ruffalo talks Thor: Ragnarok

Speaking to Empire, Mark Ruffalo discussed the approach to Thor: Ragnarok, likening it to an odd-couple road movie.

There’s a little bit of Midnight Run, with [Charles] Grodin and [Robert] De Niro. I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner. It is a universal road movie—that’s where we’re heading. It’s not where you’d think it will be, so it’s not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think. [Empire]

Spider-Man release date moved up

Nothing to say about this one. Originally scheduled for a July 28, 2017 release, the upcoming Spider-Man movie from Marvel/Sony is now coming out on July 7 of that same year. [HR]

Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War

Frustrated Marvel hasn’t revealed Spider-Man yet? So is Marvel. While speaking to Collider, the Russo brothers revealed it really comes down to the bureaucracy of the deal between Marvel and Sony.

The reason why we still won’t talk about [the costume] is that Marvel and Sony still have to work out what uses they have for the character, on a promotional level, on a commercial level. There’s still complications as far as that goes that involves business deals. [Collider]

Star Wars: Rogue One script “saved”

Apparently Christopher McQuarrie, who directed Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation, was brought in to polish the script for Rogue One, which comes out this December. [BirthDeathMovies]

The Revenant behind-the-scenes

By now you’ve probably heard how grueling it was to film The Revenant, which took place out in the icy elements. Well, now you can get nearly 45 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage showing just how incredibly difficult it was to make the movie happen. It makes you appreciate the dedication these actors and filmmakers have to their craft.
