Samsung is expected to rollout its Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in Europe on Tuesday, January 17. The South Korean company has already begun a “soak test” with a small number of users after confirming a January release.
The news comes from Samsung Turkey, which posted an update to Galaxy Beta participants that confirms Nougat for the S7 edge — model number SM-G935F — will land on January 17. Presumably, European versions of the Galaxy S7 will get it around the same time.
There’s some debate over whether the announcement is genuine. The screenshot obtained by The AndroidSoul, which you can see in the gallery above,shows a badly translated message in Spanish, seemingly overlaid over the original announcement in Turkish.
The site claims to have done some digging and confirmed the news, but we recommend taking it with a pinch of salt for now. One interesting tidbit is that the announcement promises “Android 7.0,” while Samsung has said it will skip this version and release Android 7.1.1 instead.
It’s possible the company will release different versions of Nougat in different markets, but it seems unlikely. It’s also feasible that the company is simply referring to all Nougat versions as “Android 7.0” for now.
With a soak test already underway, we know Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge is close to making its public debut. As far as we can tell, there have been no hiccups so far, so there’s no reason why Samsung would need to delay it any further.
