Google makes finding your lost Android or iOS device super easy

Both Android and iOS make it pretty easy to find a lost phone, but Google is making the process even easier thanks to a new update. As part of changes coming to Google’s My Account, the search giant this week said if you lose a device (Android or iOS) all you need to do is head to Google and type “I lost my phone” in the search bar. Simple as that.

With phones becoming increasingly important to our daily lives, knowing exactly where they are is imperative. Google says millions of phones are stolen every year in the U.S. alone, making tools like this priceless. It might not deter theft completely, but it’s a good start. If anything, if you wind up leaving your device at a bar or in a taxi you’ll be able to track it down with ease.

That being said, I’ve tried the feature a few times since it went live and, although it locates my general area, it keeps saying both of my devices are unavailable. In the instance the feature does work for you, you can lock your phone, call it, sign out and more.

The coolest part of all this is that it supports Android and iOS, ensuring fans of either platform have equal opportunity to locate their lost device. What’s more, the feature is automatically available to users who have signed into a Google account, which means there’s no setup required.

Here’s hoping you don’t lose your device. But in the event you do, just remember these four words: I lost my phone.
