Hackers breached Acer’s store and stole credit card data

If you purchased an Acer laptop between May 12, 2015 and April 28, 2016, listen up. The company said recently that hackers breached its systems and stole all sorts of data, including credit card numbers, expiration dates, three-digit security codes, names and addresses of customers who shopped on its store during that time.

Acer said that social security numbers aren’t at risk because it doesn’t collect them. The company has already emailed letters to its customers informing them of the breach. “We took immediate steps to remediate this security issue upon identifying it, and we are being assisted by outside cybersecurity experts,” Acer said in its letter. “We have reported this issue to our credit card payment processor. We have also contacted and offered our full cooperation to federal law enforcement. We regret this incident occurred, and we will be working hard to enhance our security.”
