The new BMW M2 Competition has been leaked to the world, thanks to BMW’s Australian portal releasing the information a bit early, which was picked up by a Slovenian BMW enthusiast site. Not only do all of these photographs depict the new 410-horsepower M4-engine-in-a-smaller-car hopped up M2, but they leaked a few technical specs of the car as well.
BMW is quoting the car has having 302 kilowatts, 550 Newton-meters of torque. That gives the M2 Competition about 15 fewer horses than the bigger M4, but the same torque rating of 410 lb-ft. The Competition is also quoted as sprinting from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds with a dual clutch transmission, which the M4 can allegedly manage in 4.1 seconds.
Visually, the Competition model does not differ significantly from the existing M2, though the front fascia inlets are deeper than standard and the ‘kidney’ grille is now all black. The side mirrors are cribbed from the M4, and the ‘lightweight’ all-black wheels are new. There is no explicit mention of a manual gearbox in any of the leaked literature.
