Iconiq Capital is known for its most famous client: Mark Zuckerberg.
Iconiq founder Divesh Makan first met Zuckerberg more than a decade ago, as a young banker at Goldman Sachs. In 2010, when Makan launched Iconiq, he took Zuck and other early Facebook executives with him, creating an instant sensation in the world of wealth management and family offices.
Since then, Iconiq’s ties to Silicon Valley’s elite ranks have grown stronger and more widespread, making Iconiq one of the most influential and secretive firms in the world of tech. Insider chronicled the rise of Iconiq in a deep investigation into the firm’s clients, finances, and culture, which you can read here.
While the client roster remains one of Iconiq’s most closely guarded secrets, Insider has identified dozens of the firm’s clients through conversations with Iconiq insiders. There’s tech royalty like Apple’s App Store boss Eddy Cue, and NextDoor CEO Sarah Friar, alongside Facebook executives like Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg.
And the firm has also quietly pushed into Hollywood as Makan has expanded his network, recruiting entertainment industry heavyweights like Tom Hanks, Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Timberlake.
There have also been some big-name departures. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey — often cited as one of Iconiq’s most high-profile clients — discreetly ended most of his ties with the firm a few years ago. Instagram cofounder Mike Krieger is a former client, along with Dropbox cofounder Arash Ferdowsi.
Here, for the first time, is a list of some of the powerful and wealthy individuals on Iconiq’s vaunted client roster:
