Best Motoring is Japanese eye-candy for the soul, taking all manner of cars whether they belong on a race track or not and dueling it out there anyway. This track battle from 2007 includes everything from a Honda CR-V to a Mitsubishi Pajero and a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and it’s hilarious perfection.
Mind you, this isn’t as lopsided a fight as some of the less logical comparisons that Motor Trend’s “Head 2 Head” show sometimes comes up with. The less powerful grocery getters like the CR-V and the Mazda CX-7 are allowed to start from the front, and the lone semi-track-ready entrant—the Cayenne Turbo—is forced to start way, way in the back.

For bonus JDM points, there’s a hybrid Toyota Harrier (not a Lexus RX, but badged as the Toyota) lining up next to the Pajero on the second row. I mean, why not? This is Best Motoring. If it can be done, it must be done.
It’s a five-lap race, so the Cayenne only has a limited amount of time to catch up. Yet it catches up to the slowest cars by lap 3, and starts going for the leaders on lap 4.
Holy crap. The original Cayenne Turbo really was that good. There was little like it to even race against in 2007. Since then, the Cayenne has spawned this entire class of fast luxury SUVs that don’t suck to drive and more importantly, print money to fund other cool stuff, like new 911 GT2 RSes.
