Instagram is more popular than ever. The Facebook-owned app just hit 500 million monthly users, but it was still missing one major feature… until now.
The company announced on Thursday that it plans to roll out foreign language translations in the coming month. Once the update hits, you’ll be able to translate the text in a specific post or someone’s profile bio by simply tapping a button. However, Instagram didn’t say how many languages it will support at launch and the announcement points to a help site that still doesn’t mention the new feature.
It sounds like Instagram’s translation tool will be pretty similar to Facebook’s. The social network is able to automatically detect a foreign language and automatically offer the option to translate using in-house AI. Twitter also offers a similar feature thanks to a partnership with Microsoft’s Bing Translator.
It’s a nice update, though there are still plenty of other features we wish Instagram would roll out, like scheduled posts or the ability to include links with your photos. But translations are a solid improvement for now
