The Monday after Warner Bros. released Batman v Superman, the studio put a deleted scene on YouTube. In it, Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is seen communicating with a mysterious alien character, later confirmed to be Steppenwolf.
Well, now we know which actor is playing the DC villain: Ciaran Hinds.
We already knew Steppenwolf would be Justice League’s big bad, but hearing who is playing the character is certainly newsworthy. Apparently, Hinds has already completed the performance capture required for the role; the film also just recently wrapped filming.
The Wrap claims Steppenwolf will look different to how audiences saw him in that deleted scene, but it’s unclear what’s changing. Maybe he’ll be tweaked to look a little more human, similar to his look in the comics.
Steppenwolf the villain, not the band
Hinds regularly takes on dramatic roles, appearing in everything from There Will Be Blood to Game of Thrones. Justice League is a different beast entirely, so it will be cool to see how they utilize his talents.
Steppenwolf will be after the Mother Boxes in Justice League, according to director Zack Snyder, which will spur Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Flash to all come together for the greater good.
Justice League is set for a Nov. 17, 2017 release.
