I don’t think anyone was surprised by the conclusion of “Home,” the most recent episode of Game of Thrones, which finally revealed the fate of fan-favorite Jon Snow. While it’s a relief that saga is over, let’s just say after all of the anticipation, the actual reveal was a little bit… underwhelming.

Naturally, after keeping up the con for so long, actor Kit Harington, who played the Lord Commander, was sorry for lying to fans of the show.
Here’s what Harington said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
I’d like to say sorry for lying to everyone. I’m glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care or it’d just be, ‘Fine, Jon Snow’s dead.’ But it seemed like people did have, similar to the ‘Red Wedding’ episode, a kind of grief about it. Which meant something I’m doing, or that the show’s doing, for Jon is right.
Snow’s revival came at the very end of the episode, but it’s not like it was some big surprise. Fans have speculated for months that Snow would be brought back to life by Melisandre and that’s exactly what happened. Now where does he go from here? Well, if you believe the popular R+L=J theory (Rhaegar + Lyanna = Jon), we’re about to learn a lot more about Snow’s past.
I’m glad Snow’s fate has already been revealed. Unlike another immensely popular show—looking at you The Walking Dead—the showrunners of Game of Thrones decided it’s better to just get on with it, rather than string fans along for the entire season only to let them down at the crucial moment.
If the most popular fan theories about Jon Snow turn out to be true, he’ll have a much larger role to play in this season and beyond. Hopefully, there aren’t any other fakeouts on the way.
