Now that the speed limit on the Nürburgring has been lifted, Koenigsegg intends to take its 1,340 horsepower One:1 supercar around for a few laps. And hey, they aren’t trying to break the current record time of the Porsche 918, but if they do, that’s cool too.
Once upon a time in 2014 Koenigsegg produced a super-special supercar called the One:1 named after a perfect one-to-one power to weight ratio (1,360 kg curb weight to just about 1,340 horsepower). They didn’t set out to destroy any and all existing lap records, it just sort of started happening.
They started with Spa, did pretty good but were stopped short, and then planned to send the RWD hellraiser to the famous Nürburgring to, we’ll say, compare it to the Porsche 918’s 6:57 lap record. Then tragedy struck and the ‘Ring threw up speed limits and Koenigsegg took a rain check.

Well the rain has now cleared, and so has the speed limit. In a blog post released today by Koenigsegg, the company announced they will hit the Nürburgring from square one and try to show off on the “ultimate automotive proving ground” with no direct intention of setting a track record.
They just want everyone to know they’re going to be out there a couple of times a month with the One:1, with a search for a driver with an intimate knowledge of the Nürburgring currently taking place. Regular Koenigsegg Stig Robert Serwanski will still be involved in preparations.

Will we gun for a record this year? Maybe. It depends on many, sometimes mundane, factors such as track access/availability, driver availability, the weather and other commitments that may pose a conflict in terms of timing.
If it happens, you wont see us complaining.
