On yet another quiet January weekend, new releases fell to old favorites.
1. Kung Fu Panda 3
Kung Fu Panda 3 came in at the top of the box office in its second weekend with $21M, a 49.1 percent drop from its opening. It now stands at $69M domestically and $151.2M globally.
2. Hail, Caesar!
Hail, Caesar!, the latest film from the Coen Brothers, opened in second place with $11.44M off of a $22M budget.
3. The Revenant
Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest film is still chugging along and took in $7.1M for a new domestic total of $149.7M off of a $135M budget.
4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in its eighth week of release and still in the top five. It took in $6.89M to bring its domestic total up of $905.96M, making it the first film to do so in the U.S. Combing with the $1.102B it has done in foreign markets it now stands at $2.008B, making it only the third film to ever break the $2 billion dollar barrier.
5. The Choice
The Choice, the latest from Nicholas Sparks, opened quietly in fifth place with $6.085M.
