If you’ve been holding on to about 200 grand (mostly in change) because you wanted a Lamborghini Huracán, but it had to be both a drop-top and RWD only, you’re finally able to unload all that cash. Because Lambo has finally revealed a rear-wheel drive Huracán Spyder, and it’s called, cleverly the Lamborghini Rear Wheel Drive Huracan Spyder.

First, we have to address this name. Yes, the car’s official name is Lamborghini Huracán Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder. I heard that name was shortened from This Car Is The Lamborghini Huracán Rear-Wheel Drive Spider Car, and both these names represent a departure from Lambo’s android-rational naming convention of LP[horsepower]-[number of driven wheels].
If this car used the old naming convention, it’d be the LP580-2 Spyder, I guess. But it’s not, it’s the Lamborghini Rear Wheel Drive Huracán Spyder.

The just-revealed Lambo seems like it’ll be the most viscerally fun of the Huracán family. It’s less precise and quick than the all-wheel drive versions, but that RWD-only should make it much more entertaining and dramatic, and the open top makes any drive more exhilarating. This just means that if your goal is to have an amazing time oversteering in an absurdly fast bathtub, this is your car.

The rear-wheel drive Huracán Spyder features a newly designed front and rear with a dynamic but more aggressive look distinguishing it from the four-wheel drive version. Its naturally aspirated V10 5.2 l engine sends 426 kW / 580 hp to the rear axle, with its dry weight of just 1,509 kg providing a weight-to-power ratio of 2.6 kg/hp. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 319 km/h.
Also, if you thought I was kidding about the oversteer, I wasn’t. It looks like Lamborghini baked that right in:

The ANIMA (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management: ‘soul’ in Italian) button on the steering wheel allows the driver to adopt different driving modes, calibrated to suit the spirit of the rear-wheel drive model. STRADA for daily use, SPORT for sporty driving fun, and CORSA for maximum track-oriented performance are tuned to provide over-steering characteristics, emphasizing authentic rear-wheel drive behavior.
This shouldn’t be a shock; oversteer can be a blast (well, until there’s a wall), and that’s pretty much the raison d’etre of this car.

As in all Huracán models, cylinder deactivation improves engine efficiency, reduces fuel consumption and reduces CO2. When full engine capacity is not required, five of the ten cylinders are temporarily deactivated by switching off one cylinder bank.

This car seems like raw joy melted into a big metal wedge. Plus, it’s offered in yellow, one of the best car colors ever.
