LG made its G5 unique with a modular design that allows users to add their own upgrades. That’s said to be going away for this year’s G6, but LG has something else up its sleeve. Its next-generation device will offer the world’s first QHD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.
LG confirmed the news this week ahead of the G6’s official unveiling next month. It has labelled this a “QHD+” display due to the fact that it has a sharper resolution of 2880 x 1440 (as opposed to standard QHD which is 2560 x 1440) for 564 pixels-per-inch.
The display will measure 5.7 inches and it will have a unique 18:9 aspect ratio. LG hopes that this will provide users with a more immersive experience, and that it will make it easier to multitask on a smartphone using LG’s dual-screen feature.
“QHD+ is expected to maximize users’ experience and value by providing ultra-high definition, differentiating it from all other mobile display panels,” said Kim Byeong-koo, senior vice president and head of the mobile development at LG Display.
The display will also boast LG’s own in-TOUCH technology for greater touch performance, eliminating the need for cover glass and reducing the thickness of the G6’s LCD panel. LG has also been able to reduce the size of the display’s bezels to just 0.2mm.
“Users will also be able to better view the display under sunlight as transmittance has increased 10 percent, while the display consumes about 30 percent less power than its predecessors,” reports The Korea Herald.
