Oh no! Hopefully the Madden-curse has been dispelled enough over recent seasons to not cast its lingering shadow over this year’s totally excellent choice for cover athlete. EA has chosen none other than the New England Patriot’s tight-end Rob Gronkowski to grace the cover of Madden 17.
Rob Gronkowski is a 4x Pro-bowler, Super Bowl champion and generally considered to be the best tight end in the league these days, perhaps the best ever with a few more solid seasons under his belt. He’s also such a charming guy that he even got my to reconsider my prejudices on popped-collar brosefs.
Gronkowski had been in the running to be the cover athlete for the past two years, but he came up short in the final round of voting both times. EA obviously wanted the popular player this year and skipped the voting process altogether.
EA’s blog post states that it will be tweaking all three phases of the game, offense, defense, and special teams for those not down with sports lingo, as opposed to previous years when it focused on overhauling a single one.
Combined, these gameplay innovations demonstrate our continued effort to make this the most complete Madden ever. Unlocking the fun for all players, including our most passionate fans as well as new comers to the franchise.
Madden NFL 17 will be release for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on Aug. 23. Hopefully, we’ll be able to see this a full football season after its release.
