Manchester City have agreed to buy Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy for £52 million, the BBC reported on Saturday.
Mendy, aged 23, joined Monaco from Marseille last summer.
While at Monaco, Mendy played 34 times for the club and helped them to win their first Ligue 1 title in 17 years.
Manchester City, who are yet to confirm the deal, is trying to boost its defence ahead of the new Premier League season, which gets underway on August 11.
The club paid £50 million for Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Kyle Walker earlier this month and manager Pep Guardiola is still on the hunt for at least one other defender, according to The Sun.
Last summer, Manchester City paid Everton £47.5 million deal for centre-back John Stones but his performance last season left some City fans unimpressed at times.
Mendy would become Manchester City’s fourth major signing of the summer and take their spending to more than £175 million. Other big summer signings at Manchester City include Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva (£43 million) and Brazilian keeper Ederson Moraes (£35 million).
