The fact that Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite even exists can be considered a small miracle, but this grand return of one of Capcom’s biggest cult-classic icons is a little too much. No, we’re not talking about Ryu, nor are we even talking about Mega Man X.
We’re talking about the succubus Morrigan! Just when you thought Darkstalkers was finally laid to rest in the halls of Capcom, the company brings back its biggest star to join the ranks of A-list fighters like Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and even Captain America, who also makes his grand debut in this trailer.
Morrigan is now officially linked to the Marvel universe
Oh, to be a young 12-year-old Marvel fan once again. Your parents, thinking it’s just a game based on the movies, buy you Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite for Christmas. You fire it up on your shiny PlayStation 4, and boom, Morrigan is there to shatter your innocence once and for all. I remember when that happened to me, and I wish I could relive that experience once more.
While I doubt the series will ever again reach the heights of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, one of the best fighting games ever made, I’m pleased to see that Disney still respects Capcom and its long history of working together. It’s a corporate romance that goes all the way back to the 1980s, and seeing Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite in action makes me feel all sentimental inside.
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.
