Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger headed to Disney’s Freeform

Marvel’s TV universe is getting a little bigger, with Variety reporting Freeform is the newest destination for an upcoming show. Freeform, a Disney-owned network, is apparently the new home for Cloak and Dagger, which is being described as a series targeted more toward young adults (in the 14-34 demographic).

Cloak and Dagger is, at its core, a love story and tells the tale of two teenagers who struggle to deal with their powers while also coping with everyday life. They first appeared in Spider-Man comics in the early 80s, receiving their powers after taking an experimental drug.

Since this is a family-oriented channel, Cloak and Dagger should be decidedly less gritty and violent than Netflix’s Marvel universe, but hopefully it can reach the lofty heights set by shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Putting a story like Cloak and Dagger on Freeform will help Disney capture younger audiences who might not normally care about comics, and possibly spur interest in other Marvel properties.

Freeform is no stranger to sci-fi and fantasy but the genre of superheroes is untapped on the young channel. No casting or release date was revealed but we’ll let you know of any further developments.
