Way back in 2014, Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire bought a 1996 Lexus LS400 with 897,000 miles on it as a joke/just because/to try and get the odometer to seven figures. Thanks to the help of a whole lot of other folks, and I guess some absurdly good engineers who worked at Toyota in the 1990s, he finally succeeded.
This has to be the most famous second-generation Lexus LS on Earth. Even the Petersen Museum has featured this jewel, not to mention it’s been on a big batch of YouTube channels and Instagram accounts. The #millionmilelexus hashtag goes deep, but I think this is my favorite image of the car so far:
We shared a video update of the car’s status about six months ago and it was, well, it was running but definitely worn out. We’re not sure exactly what kind of shape it’s in at this exact moment, but Farah and company appear to have crossed the epic mileage milestone in good spirits according to their social media feeds.
It sounds like photographer David Burnett (AKA “PuppyKnuckles”) is rolling with them, helping to document the car’s… I was about to write “final moments” but the thing seems to still be running strong.

I’m sure we’ll get a big rundown of everything wrong and right with the car soon. For now, I’m just happy to see any car live so damn long.
