Mitch McConnell made a bold prediction about his favorite baseball team, the Washington Nationals, during an interview with Business Insider.

During a Tuesday interview with Business Insider to promote his newly released memoir, “The Long Game,”in which he describes his affinity for baseball and the Nationals, the Senate majority leader predicted one of the team’s pitchers would continue an early-season streak of dominance.

“I will predict that Stephen Strasburg will win the Cy Young,” McConnell said.

The Cy Young is awarded to the pitcher voted the best in each league by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Strasburg currently has the third-highest odds to win the award, per OddsShark, after the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw and Chicago Cubs’ Jake Arrieta, who won the award last season.

Strasburg is in the midst of a tremendous season. He’s currently 9-0 with a sterling 2.69 ERA as the Nationals hold on to first place in the NL East. But both Kershaw and Arrieta are performing even better than the Nationals’ ace so far this season. Both Kershaw and Arrieta have ERAs below 1.60, and the two have a combined 16-1 record.

McConnell also said he believes the Nationals, who own a three-game lead over the New York Mets for first place in their division, will make the postseason.

“I think they need to learn how to play in the postseason,” he said. “They’ve been good off and on for the last few years, but they’ve never been able to produce in the playoffs.”
