Missing Stranger Things? So is everyone else. Until the second season comes around, Netflix has a new mystery that might tide you over.
Called The OA, the new show is about a young woman who mysteriously turns up after being kidnapped seven years ago. The twist is that she used to be blind and now she’s not. So, what led to her disappearance and how can she account for her newfound vision?
Well, um, I have no clue. Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix, which doesn’t really explain much:
From Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, the visionary filmmakers behind Sound of My Voice and The East, comes a powerful, mind-bending tale about identity, human connection and the border between life and death. The Netflix original series The OA is an odyssey in eight chapters produced in partnership with Plan B Entertainment, Netflix and Anonymous Content. The groundbreaking series offers audiences a singular experience that upends notions about what long-format stories can be.
There’s an official Instagram account for The OA, which is full of even more mystery. The main character appears to have been experimented on at some point though it’s unclear if these are being performed during her disappearance or after.
How do you cross a border that’s hard to define?
“Trust the unknown,” reads a tag on The OA’s official Instagram account. The show was originally announced last year but Netflix hasn’t provided many updates since then. Now, suddenly, it’s landing this Friday.
It certainly looks intriguing but we’ll see if all the mystery results in a compelling show. For what it’s worth, The OA is launching on Netflix the same day Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters in the U.S.
