While nothing has been announced, it appears that Ronda Rousey is on her way to a WWE career.
Rousey made a memorable showing at WrestleMania 31 in March, appearing in the ring with standbys like The Rock and Triple H. Calls for the former UFC champion and Olympic medalist to make a permanent move to professional wrestling have grown increasingly loud since then.
The 30-year-old Rousey has yet to confirm her plans, but there have been a number of clues that suggest a full-time move to WWE could be the next step in her career. The latest, a video posted by TMZ, shows Rousey and her husband, fellow UFC fighter Travis Browne, being evasive as they answer questions from a reporter while walking through LAX.
“If you were a real fan, would you really wanna know?” she said when asked about her potential move to pro wrestling.
She was dismissive of the idea that real fans would want an update as soon as possible.
“I enjoy it more that way,” she said of her non-answer. “I don’t want to ruin anything for anybody.”
While Rousey didn’t give away any information, it certainly sounds like something is going on between Rousey and WWE. What’s more, she may not be the only one in her family headed for the ring — Browne, a UFC heavyweight who’s ranked 14th in his weight class, seemed to indicate that he’s been in talks with the company too.
“We’re still making decisions on my part. We’ll see where I go in the future,” he said. “I’m not gonna say no.”
Rousey wasn’t the only one to comment on her potential move to pro wrestling. WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon indicated that the door was wide open for the California native to join the ranks in another TMZ video posted last week.
“Ronda, the offer still stands,” McMahon says. “We’d love to have you in WWE.”
McMahon’s husband, pro wrestler Triple H, went into more detail about Rousey’s interest in WWE back in March.
“[Rousey] has been on record saying WWE is probably some of the most fun that she has ever had in her entire career,” he told Sky Sports. “I have been out there publicly saying that if she wants the opportunity I am happy to give it to her. She is looking for the opportunity so it seems like a perfect match-up. I am excited to have the conversation with her and see where it goes.”
Rousey, a big fan of pro wrestling, has continued to appear in WWE-related media, including this video, which shows her and fellow “Four Horsewomen” Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir praising Shayna Baszler’s win at the Mae Young Classic.
At the rate things have been going, it might not be long before we see Rousey go toe-to-toe with Triple H again — this time as a full-blown colleague.
