Remember that incident in New York where the gang of bikers attacked a guy and his family in a Land Rover on the West Side Highway? Well, the NYPD is sick of stuff like that, including infamous traffic-stopping “stunters,” so they’re publicly crushing a ton of confiscated bikes to send a message.

Seems to me like a waste of a ton of good motorcycles and four-wheelers that could be sold for profit out of state, but then again, I lack the NYPD’s infinite wisdom on such matters.

CBS New York reports that police Commissioner Bill Bratton and Mayor Bill de Blasio are through with the “clowns” and “knuckleheads”:
“Individuals operating these bikes – these knuckleheads,” said police Commissioner Bill Bratton, “I describe this as a big problem in the sense of the danger and risk that they present – that these clowns present – in terms of their pack mentality, where they have no concern for public safety at all – go up on sidewalks. They’re in and out of traffic.”
“The folks who do this think they have a right to bother everyone else; to disrupt their peace and endanger their safety,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “They don’t.”
Police launched a “crackdown” of aggressive biker asshattery in January and have since seized 312 motorcycles, dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles, twice as many last year, the TV station reports. At least some of those will be crushed in a “very public ceremony.” No date for that has been set yet.

In the meantime, the New York Post says cops will be going after said knuckleheads at gatherings, parks, deserted streets, and other places knuckleheads are known to frequent and will even arrest riders at checkpoints—but will not give chase.
