Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir already does enough in promising to make the beautiful PlayStation 2 cult-classic much more enjoyable. Full-blooming HD, more competent combat, and a total purge of slowdown were all enough to sell me on the package right off the bat, but I suppose I could do with an extra gameplay mode or two as well.
Upon completing the adventure in this new HD port, players will unlock a new “Xtra New Game” mode that will allow them to carry over all experience and items into a new game. Continuing in this fashion also allows for a “Hell” mode to be unlocked, and this will make enemies much more difficult on top of limiting characters to just 200 HP throughout the entire game.
Another mode VanillaWare has added is a boss rush mode that must be completed in 30 seconds. Players can use whatever character they like, and each enemy will be capped at level 50.
Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir launches for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Q2 2016 in North America. It launches in Japan next week with a demo available from today.
