Most of the time when we see in-development production cars testing on public roads, they’re covered in tarp-like material, wrapped with distracting patterns, and most importantly, they’re running. This camouflaged car from the Pagani Huayra line was not.
… running, that is.
The Aalen police headquarters in Baden-Württemberg, Germany posted a photo of the car on Twitter last Friday, and German newspaper Stuttgarter Nachrichtenreports that a 37-year-old driver crashed the car that morning. The apparent cause of the crash had to do with a strong acceleration, according to an English translation of the police tweet and of the Stuttgarter Nachrichten report.

According to police, the man with the PS-Boliden on the K1905 was on his way when he had to stop between Burgstall and Birkhau at a construction site traffic light. When driving off the accelerator of the sports car was apparently so strong that the driver lost control and drove down a slope by car, where he crashed into a tree.
Road & Track asked Pagani about the camouflaged car that wrecked, and a spokesperson called it “an evolution of the Huayra Roadster.” The Roadster is one of the three main Huayra variants, with a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 sourced from Mercedes-AMG. It makes a casual 754 horsepower and 738 ft-lb of torque.

Pagani didn’t say anything about power on this tester in its response to Road & Track, only that the car was crashed by one of the company’s German partners last week and that “neither the driver, nor the passenger reported any damages, both were unharmed, since the central monocoque has performed exceptionally as planned.”
So did the gas pedal, apparently.
