Pete’s Dragon photo shows Elliott looking like a huge cuddle monster

After a brief and mysterious teaser, the dragon from Pete’s Dragon has been revealed. And he isn’t your typical, fiery, Game of Thrones dragon; Disney’s version is big and cuddly, like an oversized plush doll. For reference, we’ve included an image above of how the dragon originally appeared in the movie from 1977. Quite the difference, no?

This version is in pretty stark contrast to the animated goofball we saw back in 1977, so longtime fans of the property might be a little taken aback by the reimagining. He doesn’t look like any dragon I’ve ever seen. Be that as it may, it gives the character a warm presence, something I imagine Disney was going for.

Pete’s Dragon, which stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford, is set for an Aug. 12, 2016 release.
