The great debate of our time is about to erupt on the PlayStation Network. Do you want stronger protection against online predators, or do you want to be able to login to your accounts without having to jump through multiple hoops. Security vs convenience? It’s not just for national security, people!
Sony, having been the victim of several huge security breaches in the past, is taking action to incorporate a two-factor authentication for whenever you wish to access the PlayStation Network.
While rumors swirled around the Internet much of the day thanks to it being spotted in the PS3 firmware update 4.80, Sony eventually confirmed the news in a prepared statement to Polygon, stating:
“In order to further safeguard our users and their accounts, we are preparing to offer a 2-step verification feature. More details will be shared at a later date.”
PlayStation Network is joining Steam and Microsoft in including this extra measure of security. While it might be an inconvenience, trust me, you don’t want people breaking into your account and stealing your PlayStation information. That’s never fun, nor it is fun when Sony finds itself on the end of a security breach. This is just the world we live in.
