Pokémon Snap finally hits American Wii U Virtual Console today

Pokemon Snap - 4

Nintendo is set to release Pokémon Snap on the Wii U’s Virtual Console today. The game will be live and available once the eShop updates (which it probably already has by the time you’re reading this), and it will sell for $9.99.

Complete with that odd, tinted look that the Wii U’s Nintendo 64 emulator is now known for. Seriously, looking at the screen is like playing the game with sunglasses on.

Here’s how Nintendo sells Pokémon Snap in the release that announced the news.

The Nintendo 64 cult classic is now on the Wii U console! Travel to Pokémon Island to embark on a safari and take the best possible in-game photographs of 63 different Pokémon. The island has many types of climates and environments to explore, along with secret activities and hidden passages to discover. Some of the Pokémon can be a little shy and won’t pose for the camera unless you tease them with special items. After you’re done, submit one picture of each Pokémon to Professor Oak, and he’ll judge it based on size, pose, technique and number of Pokémon captured. Can you snap the perfect shot?

What is taking so long for these Virtual Console games?

With only three months left as Nintendo’s current home console, the Wii U is starting to get some Virtual Console additions that should have been with the platform for years now. Mario Kart 64 dropped last week, and now this?

The Wii U is on its way out the door. Why are we only now seeing marquee classics in North America? The timing of this just seems so weird, and it makes the Virtual Console service seem like an afterthought.

Hopefully whatever Nintendo does for the Switch is better.
