Samsung already rolling out June security patch for latest flagships

Samsung is often criticized for being too slow to release new Android security patches, but that’s certainly not the case with its latest. The South Korean company is already rolling out June’s release to its latest flagships.

Samsung is starting the rollout on the Galaxy S7 edge, but it’s thought the Galaxy S7 will soon follow — then older devices like the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 series. It’s worth remembering, however, that if your handset is carrier locked, it might take longer to arrive.

Like all Android security patches, this release simply fixes vulnerabilities that could leave your smartphone open to attack through malicious software. However, don’t expect to see any new features or changes to your operating system.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be keen to install it as soon as it’s available, though. These patches often fix big flaws in Android that hackers can exploit to steal data from your device and even take control of it remotely.

Samsung has been fast to release other security patches before; it rolled out May’s update to the Galaxy Note 4 back in April. However, some fans are still unhappy that the vast majority of users don’t get theirs until long after they are scheduled to arrive.
