Samuel L. Jackson is convinced Mace Windu is alive

Could it be there is a one-armed Jedi wandering the galaxy that the Empire missed in Order 66? Samuel L. Jackson thinks so.

During a recent question and answer session on Twitter, iconic actor Samuel L. Jackson was asked about whose idea it was to kill Mace Windu in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He said the decision came from series creator George Lucas, but he isn’t entirely convinced the Jedi Master died.

“In my mind, I’m not dead,” Jackson said. “Jedi can fall incredibly high distances and not die.”

What does this mean for the future of Windu? Probably nothing. When asked a follow-up question by Entertainment Weekly about whether he had shared this with any of the Lucasfilm folks, the actor replied “Only George [Lucas]. But George doesn’t have anything to do with it anymore.” And what was Lucas’ opinion on the matter? “George is like, ‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive.”

As to what Windu could be up to, Jackson theorized he would just be laying low like Obi-Wan did following the Jedi Purge.

For Star Wars fans, I wouldn’t get your hopes up that Windu and his purple lightsaber will return any time soon. I would rule out the new trilogy for sure, and it seems doubtful he would appear in the standalone films about the theft of the Death Star plans or the upcoming young Han Solo story.

A novel, however, certainly wouldn’t be out of the question.
