Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness Producer Shuichi Kobayashi has already taken on the gargantuan task of revitalizing the classic JRPG franchise, but that’s not all he intends to do. Should his new game become a hit, the man intends to dive further into developer tri-Ace’s history and bringing back yet another beloved franchise.
Hope you are looking forward to the end of the world, because Kobayashi already has a proposal written up for Valkyrie Profile 3 saved on his computer. Speaking during a Dengeki Online stream this morning, he was pressed about the possibility of a “sixth S” or even a “third V,” meaning sixth Star Ocean or third Valkyrie Profile, and he with a bit of a shock to the interviewer.
“To be frank, there is a proposal on my computer. Let me show it already!”
Valkyrie Profile is one of the few franchises in video gaming that actually gets Nordic mythology right. The first game has survived as a timeless masterpiece revolving around the Valkyrie Lenneth as she gathers wandering human warriors to lead into Ragnarok, the apocalyptic battle for Earth. Its sequel never proved to be as popular, but fans swear by its complicated battle system as one of the best ever.
Also in the interview, Kobayashi lamented on how he would feel if Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness proved to be a commercial failure, stating that “if it doesn’t sell, we won’t make a sequel.”
“If world becomes an place where everyone plays all sorts of games, I may be able to find the next game’s means of escape.”
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness will be released for the PlayStation 4 in 2016. If you’re interested, snap it up. We need Valkyrie Profile to follow in its footsteps, especially because nobody has jumped in to localize Exist Archive yet.
