Stretch Armstrong coming to Netflix in new animated series

You probably don’t remember Stretch Armstrong because you’re not 50-years-old, but Netflix apparently feels there’s enough nostalgia to give the weird action figure his own show. The service is teaming up with Hasbro to introduce a new series for 2017 that’s being aimed at teen and pre-teen audiences, because reboots are still a thing and will never die.

If you’re unfamiliar with Stretch Armstrong, he was an action figure made to look like a small WWF wrestler, and was capable of stretching his arms and legs to great lengths. It was a novel toy, and got old after about five minutes, but it let little boys take out their rage on an inanimate object. It also made for a good way to tie up annoying little siblings.

The new series is described as an animated action-comedy “about an over-scheduled teenager named Jake Armstrong and his two best friends.”

When the trio is accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical, them become Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, a team of unlikely stretchable superheroes who expand beyond the confines of their lives and embark on a series of adventures

So basically these teens will all become wannabe Mr. Fantastics.

In addition to Stretch Armstrong, Netflix announced it’s also preparing The Greenhouse, a sci-fi drama, and Lalaloopsy, a musical for kids. Stretch Armstrong is tentatively scheduled for a 2017 release.
