The brand-new 2019 BMW Z4 Roadster has officially showed its face at this year’s Monterey Car Week. It looks quite excellent.
The new convertible has a 50:50 axle load distribution. The version unveiled today is the Z4 M40i First Edition, which, following BMW’s whacko nomenclature system, leads us to believe that it has the wonderful 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six motor, however BMW hasn’t confirmed this.
All it’s told us at this point is that the car has a straight-six that’s good for 340 horsepower. Zero to 62 mph happens in a claimed 4.6 seconds. Further details about additional engine variants will be revealed in September. We expect official pricing information to follow then as well.

I’m not the hugest fan of roadsters myself, but I’m thrilled that BMW didn’t kill off the Z line. We need more sporty roadsters, and if BMW offers the Z4 with a manual, then we will truly gain something fun and valuable to the market.
