We know that a mighty 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is in the pipeline, but details on just how ravenous it will be remain unconfirmed. Today, an allegedly leaked spec sheet was posted to a Mustang forum and gave us some viable numbers: 5.2-liter supercharged V8, 720 HP, 650 lb-ft of torque.
“The document aligns with many of the agreed-upon speculation to date,” wrote the administrators of Mustang6g.com, where the information was published. This apparent spec sheet’s origins before that are somewhat unclear, and the person who posted it doesn’t seem to be exceedingly active on the forum.
The powertrain and output make sense. If the GT500 were to have a rival in the 700 horse-club, it’d probably be the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, which this Ford tangles with pretty much directly if this sheet is legitimate.
I did notice that somebody seems to have misspelled “petrol” in the allegedly official specification document, and the curb weight claim for the GT500 is a portly 4,225 pounds. That is Dodge Challenger territory, and if true, means the GT500 is a whole lot beefier than a standard Mustang GT, which tips the scales at about 3,800 pounds.

It’s unlikely Ford will return my request for comment on the leak with anything interesting, besides potentially a blanket denial, but I have reached out and will update this post if we hear back.
