The 302 HP 2019 BMW X2 M35i Gets BMW’s Most Powerful Four-Cylinder Ever

The 2019 BMW X2 M35i is the new range-topping version of the slightly different and better looking crossover based on the BMW X1, and now it comes with the most powerful four-cylinder engine the company’s ever built.

It’s easy to look at the BMW X2 and feel like the world has gone to shit; with its awkward sagging crossover profile, questionable panel cladding and oddly placed C-pillar logos. But after seeing a few of them on the street, it’s really not that bad. And now it gets over 300 horsepower.

The new X2 M35i is the first time the M35 model designation has been used for a four-cylinder, but its seems like it’s earned it. The tweaked 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo four is good for 302 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, and sets a 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds, which is pretty quick for what’s supposed to just be another profit padding crossover.

The X2 M35i also comes with an 8-speed auto and all-wheel drive standard, and it even has launch control to make sure you can put that power down. It also gets the first-ever M Sport limited slip differential on the front axle, better brakes and a sport tuned suspension and steering.

The car is also now available in a new Cerium Grey color with new 19-inch wheels standard and optional 20-inch wheels, and the exterior features an M-design rear spoiler and exhausts. Inside, optional M sport seats are available in either black or Magma Red Dakota leather with increased support for fun driving. The red is a lot, but I dig it.

According to BMW, the top speed is 130 mph, but stretches to 150 mph if you slip on some performance tires. It’s not a BMW M2, but it’s about as good as a crossover like this will get. That is, unless BMW has the guts to go make a real M-version next.
