Next up on the list of up and coming directors nabbing big projects, Deadline reports Rick Famuyiwa has signed on to direct The Flash. Famuyiwa has been directing since the 90s, but recently shot to prominence for 2015’s Dope, which followed a group of teens struggling to survive in a tough Los Angeles neighborhood.
By the time The Flash comes out in 2018, the character, played by Ezra Miller, will have been established in the DC Cinematic Universe, with appearances in Batman v Superman and then again in next year’s Justice League Part One. Famuyiwa has shown he’s incredibly adept at capturing the nuance of adolescence, making him an exciting choice for the upcoming project.
The film will use a script by Seth Grahame-Smith, who was originally set to direct the film before stepping down citing creative differences.
“The feeling internally was that Famuyiwa provided a vision that would resonate with young viewers and that vision was very compatible with the script that the studio is moving toward the start gate with,” Deadline says.
The Flash is scheduled for a March 16, 2018 release.
