Now that Nintendo’s consoles no longer print money the way they used to, the company has been forced to play the merchandise game, where it is actually destroying expectations. I mean, who would have thought amiibo could have been so huge?
So, what little piece of magical capitalism does Nintendo have lined up next for your inner fanboy? Well, how about trading cards based on The Legend of Zelda?
Yes, a listing at EB Games has leaked Nintendo’s latest plans to profit in the absence of its most cherished franchise, and before you ask, yes, EB Games is still a thing in Australia.
Cards will feature art and concepts from five different Legend of Zelda games including Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, A Link Between Worlds, Majora’s Mask, and Twilight Princess. A value box will set players back $20, and altogether, the starting set includes 85 cards including the ever attractive foil cards.
I might be down to collect them, but my problem is they neglect to represent any of the games I consider my favorites. No Wind Waker, no Minish Cap, no NES original. How sweet would a collectible card game be if it rocked that radical 80s art that Nintendo used to use?
It’s a lost history to us all.
