Rumors with a capital “R” on this one. Journalist Emily Rogers has picked up a few tidbits that are circling the gaming sphere surrounding the new The Legend of Zelda game, and two of them are absolute game-changers for the franchise.
- Rumor #1 Yes, Zelda is coming to both Wii U and NX. I confirmed it with a ton of people. You can choose which one to get. Or get both.
We already assumed that this would be the case, and I’m pretty sure Nintendo wants to go this route. It already did with the jump from the GameCube to the Wii with Twilight Princess, so it is also nothing new.
Whoa, drop the bomb with both of these. Naturally, the biggest of these two rumors is the ability to choose a gender for Link. Of course, Link is not the same “man” from game to game, but rather an incarnation of the “Hero of Time” born into a human body during times of need. Every incarnation of the character to this point has been male, but I’m not sure of anything in the official lore states that the “Hero of Time” human embodiment of this gender-less spirit must carry an X and a Y chromosome.
None of that “Linkle” nonsense, either. Any Link I make is going to be “Link.”
And as for voice acting, this is also a first for the franchise. I’m not entirely on board with this idea yet, especially since Nintendo did such a horrible job with Metroid: Other M. But The Legend of Zelda needs to get with the times, and I’m thinking it’s either now or never to make this jump. I’ll place my trust in Nintendo. If it can get gender issues right by allowing Link to be female, then I don’t think it’ll make the same mistake it did with “Daddy-issue Samus.”
Three rumors, and I am certain the first one is true. As for the others, I’ll wait to call them. We’ve seen plenty of fake Nintendo leaks in recent weeks to not let me declare them as absolutes, but I like what I see.
