The new season of BBC’s Top Gear is just around the corner, and to celebrate the newly revamp series, the BBC is adding a half-hour behind-the-scenes show called “Extra Gear” hosted by new Top Gear co-host Rory Reid.
Not to be out-done by the old Top Gear presenters’ announcement of a new enthusiast website, the BBC has decided to announced that it will be airing the new half-hour show immediately following the new episodes of Chris Evans’ Top Gear.
Extra Gear host Rory Reid announced via TopGear.com that, “The Top Gear fans are some of the keenest in the world and with this show I’m giving them a chance to really get a peek behind the curtain,” and is “looking forward to showing them how the show is made and what goes on behind the scenes, giving viewers a different perspective on some of the coolest cars on the planet.”

The new behind-the-scenes show will also be aired on BBC America alongside the new series, as well.
We at Jalopnik think “Extra Gear” doesn’t really make any sense. Why not call it “Overdrive”, as suggested by David Tracy, or “The Grind,” as suggested by Tavarish?
