Dominique Mielle, who was a partner and senior portfolio manager at $20 billion hedge fund firm billion Canyon Partners, has left.
Mielle was the only female investment partner out of the eight-person senior investment team for Canyon’s flagship fund displayed on the Los Angeles-based hedge fund’s website. She is also listed on the website for the firm’s opportunistic and closed-end and CLO funds. The firm’s real estate fund team has two female directors listed.
She was Canyon’s longest tenured partner, responsible for more than $2 billion in assets, according to her LinkedIn page. She also oversaw “the establishment and growth” of the firm’s $3 billion collateralized loan obligation business, according to her profile. Her plans are unclear.
The hedge fund industry has long lacked women in senior roles, particularly in investing jobs. Only 3% of senior investment roles in hedge funds were held by women in 2012, according to trade publication CIO.
A spokesman for Canyon declined to comment.
Canyon was founded in 1990 by Josh Friedman and Mitchell Julis. Canyon manages more than $20 billion firmwide, according to its website. The bulk of those assets are in hedge funds, with $16.6 billion as of mid-year 2017, according to the Absolute Return Billion Dollar Club ranking.
