There’s something special about having the very last of something, especially if those somethings are a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and a 2017 Dodge Viper. Fiat Chrysler has ceased production of the two, and the last examples of each, sold as a pair, recently fetched $1 million at auction.
Over the weekend at the Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction in Connecticut, the Demon and the Viper were part of “The Ultimate Last Chance” lot, a lot no doubt named by a third grader. In addition to the last Viper and Demon ever made, the lot included several other piece of memorabilia, like authentication kits, letters, certification cards, iPads loaded with videos and pictures and custom branded merch.
Both of the cars are painted Viper Red. The Demon was hand-painted after it left the factory in Canada. The cars went for a neat $1 million, but FCA isn’t keeping the money. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the United Way.
That means someone spent a million bucks for a combined 1,485 horsepower, which breaks down to about $673 per HP. That’s still more of a bargain than a Bugatti Chiron. Nothing is more bang-for-your-buck than good, old American muscle.
