The BMW E46 M3, with its 333 horsepower, timeless styling, and wailing straight-six, remains the eternal “Best M3,” the people’s champ. But how much would you really pay for one new today?
This is a 2004 model with a stunning 176 miles on the clock, up for auction on Bring A Trailer. Looks good!
Though one doesn’t like, actually, you know, need to bring a trailer to snatch it up. It’s just, like, a car. A car that drives. A car that you could buy and then drive home. A perfect car, by which I mean a car that adheres to everyone’s platonic ideal of a practical, entertaining, not too heavy, not too extreme performance choice.

The only thing I don’t understand is why this car is so pristine and has so few miles. Maybe there’s something in the listing that might explain it:
This 2004 BMW M3 coupe shows 176 miles and is finished in Carbon Black Metallic over black Nappa leather. Power is from a 3.2-liter S54 inline-six paired with a 6-speed SMG II transmission, and the car is optioned with the Premium Package including a moonroof, xenon lighting, and Harman Kardon sound system. The seller purchased the car three months ago, when it showed approximately 50 miles after 14 years of storage in an outdoor carport with its first owner. Recent service included replacement of the spark plugs along with fresh fluids and filters throughout. This E46 M3 is offered with a window sticker, factory manuals, accident-free Carfax report, and clean Hawaii title in the seller’s name.

Hm.
paired with a 6-speed SMG II transmission
Ah, right. That’ll do it.

The car sold originally for a tidy $58,395. Bidding is currently at $30,000 with six days to go.
I imagine that the gap between those to figures will all but disappear by the time the auction is over.
