We’ll probably never get an actual hoverboard the way it was presented in Back to the Future II, but mastermind Colin Furze has built the next best thing. After creating a truly terrifying thermite cannon, Furze one-upped himself by creating a working hoverbike—and it’s utterly insane.
The thing is dangerous and unpredictable, but the craziest part is that it actually works. Furze said it’s not particularly easy to control, and adding more weight would keep it from getting off the ground, but it’s still an impressive creation. It almost looks like an early version of the speeder bikes from Return of the Jedi.
If you’re in the market for a hoverbike of your own, Furze has comprehensive instructions on his YouTube page on how to make one. We wouldn’t recommend trying it yourself unless you’re an experienced engineer, but how cool would it be to hover down the street on one of these things?
