100 gecs have been far too disrespected for far too long. The group’s Coachella performance this year was unceremoniously cut off mid-song, yet so many people responded with some variation of “good.” I won’t stand for it. 100 gecs rule, and more people need to know it.
The group just released “Doritos & Fritos,” their second single off the upcoming album 10000 gecs, so it’s your best entry point into one of the best bands currently releasing music. Yeah, I said it.
100 gecs, comprised of Dylan Brady and Laura Les, are one of the foremost names in hyperpop. If you know anything about my obsession with audio texture, you’ll instantly understand the appeal — nothing feels, let alone sounds, like the gecs.
As Brady and Les’s tracks go, “Doritos & Fritos” is pretty approachable. If you’re a fan, or if you’re underwhelmed, hop into the deep end — “I Need Help Immediately,” “xXXi_wud_nvrstøp_ÜXXx,” or “745 sticky” are all absolute bangers. That’s before even mentioning “stupid horse” or “money machine,” the latter of which may as well be addressed directly to Coachella staff and Twitter haters:
Hey you lil’ piss baby, you think you’re so fucking cool?
Huh?
You think you’re so fucking tough?
You talk a lotta big game for someone with such a small truck
See? Car references. Check out 100 gecs, you’ll have a good time.
