The official Twitter app has finally gained support for Peek and Pop gestures on the iPhone 6s, eight months after Apple’s latest smartphones made their initial debut. They can be used to preview tweets, profiles, Moments, and more.
Lots of third-party Twitter apps — such as Tweetbot — were quick to add support for Apple’s pressure-sensitive 3D Touch display, taking advantage of the new gestures it allowed. But Twitter’s official iOS app has been slow to catch up.
The app has offered home screen Quick Actions for a while, allowing users to compose a tweet or direct message, or perform a search in just one press. But in its latest update, which teases only “minor updates” in its release notes, you’ll find Peek and Pop have been added.
Peek can be used to preview individual tweets, user profiles, Moments, and media embedded within tweets — such as webpages, images and animated GIFs, and videos. A deeper press lets you Pop into the content and associated apps — like YouTube or Safari.
When using Peek to preview media, you can swipe up to reveal the share button. Using the same gesture when previewing a user profile reveals the mute, block, and report options. On individual tweets, you’ll have the option to share and send in a direct message.
