Some users have figured a way to hack Oculus-exclusive games to be playable on the HTC Vive. Exclusives they are no longer…
Redditor CrossVR posted a link to the Vive subreddit. It goes out to Github, and we won’t be sharing that exact link here. However, we did source the Reddit post itself, as that’s where this all comes from.
CrossVR offered that users still need to buy the games directly from Oculus. This isn’t a way to pirate software. Still, the Oculus folks aren’t happy.
Here’s the response Oculus issued to Eurogamer following their coverage of the hack.
This is a hack, and we don’t condone it. Users should expect that hacked games won’t work indefinitely, as regular software updates to games, apps, and our platform are likely to break hacked software.
I don’t think Oculus is wrong here. Clearly, hacking a game to be playable on an entirely different platform isn’t what the company wants for their VR exclusives.
Still, it’s interesting that this is being done all the same. What do you think?
