Valkyria Revolution, the successor to the beloved PlayStation 3 hit Valkyria Chronicles, is coming to the English-speaking world after a year-long wait. Fans of the series can expect to find it on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita this coming spring.
The game became somewhat infamous during its development phase when gamers reacted negatively to its demos. In response, SEGA went back and retooled the combat and mechanics each time the game was showed off, and it released the game to better reception.
I’m not sure if anybody made the connection, but it’s exactly what Square Enix did with Final Fantasy XV.
Valkyria Revolution is only a successor in name
I can’t say how well it did because it fell off the map pretty quickly in Japan, and it didn’t spawn nearly the same sized cult following. No fun spin-offs with the less popular random characters. No battles with pop-idol stars. The reception doesn’t paint an impression that this is a game that sticks around with the same resilience.
I don’t think that should stop you from checking it out, though. It might not be a classic, but it could be a solid JRPG option if you’re still in hangover mode next spring after partying too hard with Final Fantasy XV and Persona 5.
Valkyria Revolution will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in spring 2017.
