World No. 1 Novak Djokovic had to sweat his fourth round win at the French Open over 14th-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut, needing four sets to advance. The win not only put Djokovic into the quarterfinals at Roland-Garros for the ninth time as he looks for his first win, it also made him the first tennis player to eclipse US$100 million in career earnings.
By moving into the quarters, Djoker is guaranteed at least a €294,000 (US$329,000) share of the purse, moving his career earnings to $100,001,707.
Roger Federer ($98.0 million) and Rafael Nadal ($78.2 million), are the only other men’s players to have won at least $50 million. Serena Williams tops all women with $76.5 million in career earnings on the WTA Tour.
