Windows 10 Continuum now supports midrange Snapdragon 617 chip

Windows 10 Mobile’s new Continuum feature, which transforms your smartphone into a PC when you need to get real work done, now supports the midrange Snapdragon 617 processor. The move should make Continuum more accessible on less expensive Windows 10 devices.

When Microsoft originally showed off Continuum during its Windows 10 event back in October, it only supported the high-end Snapdragon 808 and Snapdragon 810 processors, meaning you needed to buy a premium smartphone to enjoy it.

Now NokiaPowerUser reports that Microsoft has added the Snapdragon 617 chip, which will power more affordable Windows 10 Mobile smartphones, to its list of Continuum-supported processors.

The minimum specifications required for Continuum are 2GB of RAM, a 720p display, 16GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0, and 802.11n dual-band Wi-Fi. Recommended specifications are 3GB of RAM, a 1080p display, and 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi.

Windows 10 Mobile is currently only available on Microsoft’s new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which are powered by the Snapdragon 808 and Snapdragon 810 respectively. Windows 10 Mobile is also coming to former Lumia smartphones, but Microsoft is yet to confirm when that will happen.
