Ahead of Wonder Woman’s debut alongside Batman and Superman this weekend, an image of the superhero from her solo adventure has been revealed. She didn’t become one of the DC universe’s greatest warriors overnight; she was trained and guided by a powerful group of women on Themyscira.
Entertainment Weekly released the new image featuring Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nelson), General Antiope (Robin Wright), Lieutenant Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli), and Diana Prince herself.
“She is the only child they raised together and their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them,” said director Patty Jenkins.
For lack of a better word, they all look badass.
“To me, they shouldn’t be dressed in armor like men,” Jenkins said. “It should be different. It should be authentic and real—and appealing to women.”
Wonder Woman is already deep into production, with a release slated for June 23, 2017. Early reports suggest the film is going to follow the character through the decades, from training on Themyscira to fighting in World War I, and eventually to where we find her in Batman v Superman. After that, she’ll play a major role in the upcoming Justice League movie, which is set to begin filming next month.
